I got a 25,000 BTU window A/C last month and it's ALREADY smelling moldy or musty when you first turn it on. The odor isn't detectable after 15 minutes or so but I"m betting the mold spores are still there.

I have the unit tilted slightly so the water drains outward and I see it drip out at the edge too.

1.) Is this something that can be corrected or is it there to stay?

2.) If I exchange it for another one, won't the same thing happen since they're identical in every way?

3.) What would cause this in the first place? I assume a pool of water would, but how can that happen since I'm betting they design these things to avoid that at all costs!

Any thoughts are welcomed and truly appreciated!

Mold can grow in less than 24hr if conditions are right! Ac coils are a great place for mold to grow! Id clean the coil with bleach water solution 5 parts water 1 part bleach. Let sit for 20 minutes then turn AC on. If the problem comes back Id take it back!

Thanks for the response. Is the coil the tubing with the fins that we commonly see on the exterior? ...or is that the condensor?

Thank you

Inside evaporator Outside condensor. You need to clean the inside!
