I am at the point in building my new deck where I need some more good advise from the experts here.I have 4x4 pt post spaced apox 6' apart for the railing. I am planning to use 2x4pt between the post with 2ea (l shaped ) on the top rail and 1 2x4 (on edge) for the bottom rail. With 2"x2" PT spindels connecting the top and bottom rails. My question is how should I connect the railing 2x4's to the 4x4 post.I thought about toe nailing (but with screws) Which I am not very good at. Or would some type of L bracket to connect them be better?
On another note I would like to say LEFTY's reccomendation of CABOTs stain is excellent. I have used other types for years for various projects , but never again! Thanks again Lefty.

Simpson Strong Ties makes brackets to do exactly what you describe, that will be much stronger than toe-nail(screwing) into the 4x4's.

As for Cabot stains they are the best IMO.
