Hi all I am in the market for my very first motorcycle so I am looking for something older and cheap so that when I drop it I won't want to kill my self anyway I was looking at a
1980 KZ-550 LTD
and the seller says the timing chain rattles a little I don't know anything about motorcycles but I now on a car this is very bad and very hard to replace
So the question is. is the timing chain on a motorcycle a DIY job or is it hard to do with out special tools

Personally, I would stay clear of a 26 year old bike. There are good ones out there, But a lot of things dry out, stretch, or become brittle by that age. Unless you are more interested in tinkering than riding, I would go with a newer machine for a few bucks more. Stay in the 500 cc range as a new rider. They have plenty of pep and are a lot easier to pick up after you lay it down. I could get my V30 Magna back on it's feet by myself, but my current ride is around 700# and takes help if it goes over.
