For the past month or so I have been remodeling the main bathroom in our house. It didn't start out being a remodel, but rather it was simply going to be a change of towel fixtures and a new coat of paint. Here is what our bathroom looked like before we started this whole process:
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1357.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1357.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1358.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1358.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1359.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1359.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1360.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1360.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1360.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1361.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1362.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1362.JPG)
As you can see, the bathroom needed some serious help. So, after 2 days of 100 degree plus weather, I had the walls painted and the new fixtures up:
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1366.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1366.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1368.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1368.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1369.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1369.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1370.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1370.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1371.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1371.JPG)
So, hey, I'm done right? Not even close; we decided that the walls so good that the rest of the bathroom kind of paled in comparison. And so begins the saga.
The first thing we wanted to go was rip the old vanity out:
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1382.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1382.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1383.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1383.JPG)

http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1388.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1388.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1391.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1391.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1395.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1395.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1397.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1397.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1401.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1401.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1407.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1407.JPG)
Now that the vanity was gone, the next thing I had to do was run a new wire through the ceiling for heated flooring:
Before:

After:
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1414.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1414.JPG)
Next up I had to patch the wall behind the old vanity as it got fairly well destroyed ripping it out:
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1420.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1420.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1421.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1421.JPG)
Then I had to get the wire I had run for the heated floor into the junction box:
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1423.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1423.JPG)
Getting the wire to that state created quite a mess:
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1425.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1425.JPG)
Next step was to pull up the old linoleum:
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1428.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1428.JPG)
And of course, there was multiple layers of linoleum. Apparently this bathroom had been transplanted from mexico back in the 70s:
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1429.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1429.JPG)

http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1431.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1431.JPG)
After the linoleum came up, I had to put down a layer of hardibacker to prepare for the tile installation:
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1435.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1435.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/subfloor_finished3_small.jpg (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/subfloor_finished3.JPG)
After the hardibacker was done, I installed the heated floor components (sorry, forgot to take pictures of this step). Then came the tile. This part I didn't do myself, simply because I have never done it before, and I wanted the bathroom done. So I ended up hiring chugg's roommate to do it:
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1450.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1450.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1451.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1451.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1454.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1454.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1456.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1456.JPG)

http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1458.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1458.JPG)
After this I pulled the old shower surround out and was greeted with mold:
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/showerwall1.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/showerwall1.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/showerwall4.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/showerwall4.JPG)
So, out came all the old drywall:
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/showerwall.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/showerwall.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/showerwall5.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/showerwall5.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/showerwall5.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/showerwall5.JPG)
And in went a new layer of hardibacker:
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1461.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1461.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1462.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1462.JPG)
http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/resized/100_1463.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/100_1463.JPG)
After this I stopped taking so many pictures because I just wanted the damn thing done. But I still had to texture, paint, put down new floor trim, paint the existing trim and door, and get everything cleaned up. That took about a week or so simply because I didn't have time to work on it for more than an hour a day, but last night I finally finished the last piece, and I present to you, my newly finished bathroom:

http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/finished/resized/100_1515.JPG (http://pics.joshmeier.com/guestbathroom/finished/100_1515.JPG)
I still have some minor caulking work to redo on the shower because my caulking skills are less than stellar, but it is all full functional and 99.9% completed.
Now, on to the next project ;)
