OK, I'm gonna continue my previous question here. I'm planning a pergola over my deck and would like options on a finish. I planned PT wood, and want a white finish to match existing colors. I could paint, but would have to wait some time to let the PT dry out to accept a finish. The railing I put up used a vinyl sheath which went over a 4X4 to make a finished post, but I haven't seen this for 2X8 and 2X10 lumber. Does anyone know if this sheathing is available for dimensional lumber?? What other options are there for the pergola joists to make shade, that span 14' in length. I appreciate any help from the experienced DIYers here. Thanks.

If you would have "Posted a Reply", we would know what you are talking about.
Vinyl posts come in 2 sizes -- a 4" post, which fits over a 4X4, and a 5" post, which fits over a 4X4 but needs a filler. You won't find it to fit over a 2X8 or 2X10
Vinyl comes in other sizes as well, but how far it will span depends on how far apart it is spaced, what's supporting it, whatever snow load, wind load, and seismic zone you are dealing with -- all the same stuff that dimensional lumber depends upon.
