Hello.
I do not have enough room in between my bathroom walls to install a laundry shoot, so I cut a hole in my floor in a discreet place-in between my toilet and bathtub. Just enough room as I have a small bathroom. Also, my bathroom sits above my laundry room and the hole is located above my washer and dryer. I am wondering what to use for the shoot since it isn't going to be located in the wall. My laundry room ceiling is not finished as that is the last on my list, so I am able to attach to the joists whatever is I will be using. I thought it was a clever idea and I will make it work, but I would like some input just in case any of you did something like this before!
Thanks so much!
Sue

Sue: Make sure the hole is covered with a door. You cannot leave it open as someone can get hurt. As far as the chute goes, you can install a length of concrete sonotube to direct the clothes. It is slick on the inside and round so it won't have corners to tear or catch clothing. Good luck.

If space permits, you could go with a piece of metal ductwork from the big box. Look at what you can buy and then see if you can fit it in. - Put a handle on a metal vent cover to disguise it.

P.S. - Down the road when you sell the house a buyers home inspector may see it as a safety hazard (not necessarily a code violation) from a fire/fume standpoint. Not a big deal, but an inconveniece or hitch in the selling process.

Thanks to you who responded. I am definately putting some type of door on it. Never thought about the possibility of it being an issue if I sell the house. At least it's not a drastic one.
Whew! I'm not sure why I couldn't do it the normal way-in the wall. I checked it out though and the space was not wide enough.
Thank you!
