Well, I tried searching for a prior post, but didn’t find one, so I was wondering if there is anything I should be cautious of when replacing cabinets in a ’76 single wide mobile home? Looking at the originals, they seemed rather cheesy and weak. I’ve installed cabinets in stick built houses, but never in a mobile.

The ones I am looking at are Lowe’s unfinished oak (their cheapest ones).

Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated,
frank

Make sure they fit :)

If I remember correctly MH cabinets are slightly smaller than conventional cabinets. I think conventional cabinets are 1-2" wider [front to back] and may be slightly shorter. Measure what you have versus standard sizes.

I know what you mean about cheap cabinets in MHs, except for the screws [probably square head] being a pain they are easily removed.

I used my autocad program to design where cabinets went, and they seem to fit just right with a inch to spare here and there.

What is up with the square headed screws???? Is that their way of getting the last laugh or what? I had to buy a package of the things just to remodel my bathroom.

They invented square headed screws after construction guys cursed long enough and hard enough about phillips screws stripping out (perhaps). And the fact that phillips screws, by design, actually try to force your bit out of the screw head...even when applying a lot of force. Square headed screws don't do that.

Also, in 1976, the UBC..uniform building code... went into effect so that mobile homes built at that time forth had to meet strict construction guidlines...and that is nice to know.

Square head screws help to speed up construction. You don't have to replace or reuse them. I usually take them out and go back with phillips that I usually have on hand.
