on the other side is a wall that I put a floor cabinet 2 drawers and a marble cutting table and the stuff is still over flowing and ending up every where I can't find the food when I need it and I have nowhere to put my dishes when they are being washed to dry

mother2bugs, no need to be sorry and welcome to the DIY forums :)

First, just some things that came to mind as I was reading that might help other get a better picture...

Can you or have you put anything on top of the floor cabinet and/or the marble cutting table?

Are there any other cabinets w/space available?

Perhaps if you have extra "air space" to place a hanging pot rack for your pots and pans and use the cabinet space to store things that might be on your cabinets that you hardly ever use for instance a toaster, blender or any other big items that can be stored away.

If there's room on the floor to move around about in the kitchen, perhaps you can use some type of rolling cart (some type of utility cart) you can put near you while you are washing the dishes. I'm assuming there's no dishwasher right?

You can use lazy susan's in the cuboards to give you more space.

Get rid of any clutter from things you don't use or need. If you think you might one day use or just want to treasure it, take it out and store it in a box and store it elsewhere.

I think I may have gone off in the wrong direction but those were just some thought. Sounds like you have a really small kitchen.

When you say you have no counter space is it b/c the counter space is taken up or b/c there's basically just none?

Organization and elimination may make more room for storage. Small spaces can be challenging even for the best kitchen designer.

You might want to take you wall measurements to a local kitchen designer who can give you a computer design. Make sure you measure how far out of the corner to the middle of the sink. If the sink is under a window, you will need to measure the window. The designer can hopefully lay out a kitchen with both wall and base cabinets.

If this is a rental or if you have a limited budget at this time, perhaps you can still get ideas for your space from the designer. For instance, if there is wall space, either wall cabinets or shelves could be used to utilize space. Tops of wall cabinets can also be used for storage. If there is room for base cabinets and additional counterspace, this would give you extra work area and storage space. You need 9" minimum to slip a cabinet with countertop between the stove and the refrigerator if the refrigerator can not be moved to another wall.

Hello,
Having some experience in rather small living quarters, you have to learn to be very creative with storage issues. If counter and cabinet space is a problem, you usually have to look up to wall space for creative ways to store things, especially things that you readily need on hand. Some things that have worked for me in the past are: hanging oven mitt/potholder on the wall near the stove for easy access. You can get a matching set to match your kitchen decor. You can also hang pots & pans, as well as cooking utensils. Some come with ready-made racks to hang on the wall. Hanging baskets to store items can work as well. I have used a metal 3-tier hanging basket for potatoes, onions, etc. Baskets could also work for potholders, dishtowels, plastic lids, etc. I don't know if the kitchen is big enough to eat in or not. But you might consider a breakfast bar rather than a table. I lived in a tiny mobile home and had a breakfast bar in the kitchen. It was big enough to seat 4 people comfortably. It served many purposes, not only for eating on, but extra counter space, as well as a desk/writing area when needed. On the side opposite the barstools was long shelves that I used to store blender, toaster, etc. as well as cookbooks, canned goods, and anything else that needed a home. Again, you can organize things in decorative baskets and it looks great and is functional. I have also seen a dish rack that goes over the back part of a sink with dividers for plates and an area for cups, etc. that could serve as a dish drainer. You might do some looking on the web. I hope maybe some of these ideas will help. Good luck!

Baskets or trays on drawer slides (full extension types) could help you use all the available space in the pantry - since it has a narrow opening and is deep, getting to back could be a problem - slides will help that.

Can you hang more stuff on the back of the pantry door - might give you a little more storage.

A cutting board that fits over the sink (or half if it's a double bowl) will give you some more temporary preparation area without requiring more countertop.

You might also be able to free up some cabinet space by keeping some of your dishes elsewhere - perhaps a buffet or china cabinet in an adjoining room?

Search for space-saving and small-space ideas on the net - "Small-space kitchen design" offered some promising sites.

If you are thinking of moving the appliances, consider that fridge and door swings waste space; try to arrange these so they swing into what must be open floor space anyway (i.e. not beside a wall).

A local kitchen cabinet dealer can order countertops to fit your existing cabinets.

For small spaces, large, bulky furniture should be avoided. Use pieces more in scale with the size of the room. Avoid clutter. If you do not use it or have not used it in at least two years, the rule of thumb is that you do not need it. Take advantage of pieces that offer hidden storage. Clean out closets. Discard or give away clothing that no longer fits, is in disrepair, or has not been worn in two years. Kids toys can be passed along to someone else or sold at a yard sale as kids outgrow them. Practice the rule a thing for every place and a place for everything. Thus, if there is no place, you do not need it.
