I have a house built in the 1850s and several updates since then. It has the fancy doors with the window above them that opens seperately and a screen door that covers both the door and the window.
I have three exterior doors that all have cracks in them and huge drafts at the sills. I don't want to just replace the door and have the drafts around them yet i don't want to rip out the classic window above the door to buy a hanging replacement door kit.
How much more is it to have someone come in and i guess remodel/custom build and re-use the window components and get a new door?
Is it hard to find the screen doors for these? i hardly ever see them for sale?
Anyone with experience on this? i'm heating and cooling a lot more then i need to because of these suckers - i'm also interested in reducing outside noise since the house is in close proximity to road and farm noise.

Costs of labor and materials tend to vary from area to area. The transom windows above doors can be reframed and new doors installed below.

sounds expensive, but now i know what those windows are called :)
trying to keep as much of the original character of the house as possible.

We have an 1895 built victorian. I know there is a company out on the web that specializes in screen doors (hundreds of styles). Prices didn't seem too bad either. Just do a google search for "victorian screen doors".

Is there a good contractor search service out there? Anyone here have a base figure i should be looking for when getting 3 doors done?
