I want to build a level floor over a sloping concrete slab in a garage building and put in a small (10X25') woodworking shop. I'm going to lay down 3/4" plywood on joists spaced 16" o.c., supported by piers on the slab. Do you think I ought to finish it with a wooden floor of some kind, or just use plywood with a finish face? And if a board floor, what would be the best type? It's now an unheated space, but I'm thinking of putting in a little wood stove.
Thanks for any suggestions.

For a floor for a workshop where temperature and humidity will not be maintained year round in a garage over a concrete slab under which there is no vapor retarder, I'd recommend exterior grade plywood rather than solid wood and treated lumber for sleeper system over concrete.

I'd use tongue and groove plywood and slap a coat of porch and deck enamel on it. You should use tile, masonary or metal where you set the wood stove.
