Hi,

I am hoping you can help me. I bought this refrigerator 2 years ago at Home Depot. It is a GE side by Side, Model GSH25JFRF WW. A couple of weeks ago I noticed it seemed like it was always running. At high speed it sounds fine, but when it switches to low speed it makes a loud, low pitched whirling noise. It will continue to run at low speed, never shutting off, and sometimes I notice that it will cycle between low and high speed for an indefinite amount of time. When I say it cycles, I mean it will switch back and fourth like 3 times every ten seconds (high low, high low, high low), for a period of about 10 minutes, before I can't take it any more and turn the thermostat down to 0 to shut it off, and turn it back up to where it was, and it stops cycling, but continues to run at low speed.

I tried turning the thermostat down for both the refrigerator and freezer, but it did not make any difference at all. Both compartments seem to be the correct temperatures, and there is no ice build up or anything like that. The vent leading into the refrigerator from the freezer compartment seems to be working correctly, as I turn the thermostat down, and it stops the flow, but the fans are still running in the freezer compartment. My home is air conditioned, and temperatures are maintained between 72 and 78 degrees. The side and top clearances of the refrigerator are pretty tight, but it has a 2" gap along one side in the rear to breath. Will improper clearances cause this? I never had this problem until now.

I am hoping that the unit is supposed to run the way it is, and I am only noticing it now because the blower is louder, but I have a feeling that there is a bad sensor or circuit board, and I can expect a significantly higher electric bill.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Did you ever find the problem with your fridge? I have the same model and mine has started doing the same thing. Thanks. Joe
