Hello
All the woodwork (kitched cabinents, doors, mouldings, window ledges and stairway) in my house was solid red oak originally finished with a tung oil (only 2 coats many years ago)... A reapplication is long past due (I am entirely guilty of wood abuse :-( ) and I have the following questions as I try to redeem both the wood and myself:
1 - what is the best cleaner to prep for re-oiling. Particularly the kitchen cabinents which have buildup around the knobs
2 - the wood is quite dry in some spots - should that receive some separate attention first
3 - what is an acceptable quantity of coats
4 - I am very much a novice at this - is there a book or site that can give some very explicit instructions particularly in how to create a nice finish.
Many thanks for your help
