I have a lake fed sprinkler pump that is controlled by a pressure switch. This summer the pump has begun cycling on and off every few seconds when watering one or two of the zones. The pressure in the system indicates that the switch is correctly shutting the pump down at 60 lbs and turning it back on at 40 lbs. The factors that have changed this year are:
- lake level is somewhat higher requiring less lift
- I replaced pressure tank with identical one last fall - new one shows 30 lbs air pressure with water system not pressurized
- I extended pickup pipe by 10 feet due to low water this spring
- I replaced pressure switch which was sticking with new one, and may have increased from a 50 to 60 lb limit - I would think that would have caused it to cycle less
- I cleaned and adjusted several heads in the problem zone, which should have increased volume thru-put
- I'm a year older
If I change heads to increase volume would that correct my cycling, or should I just let it cycle?

You can make adjustments on your pressure switch and pressure tank seasonally or install a "Cycle Stop Valve". It's a constent pressure, variable flow valve for centrifugal pumps. The valve costs less than $100.00 and will solve your cycling problems.
