hello
i'm doing a complete gut and rehab on a second floor, and have some questions in regards to the flooring phase, which is still a few months away.
the upstairs has 2 bedrooms separated by a bathroom. the subfloor is 3/4" t&g OSB over 2x8 joists spaced 16" o.c. that span 11' and 13' respectively, and overlap on an LB wall on the first floor.
i plan to put down a Kahrs 5/8" floating, click-together, engineered wood floor in the bedrooms, hallways, etc., and schluter-ditra, followed by ceramic tile, in the bathroom. according to both websites, the subfloor meets the minimum requirements.
i'm going to have a ton of questions once i actually start the work, but in the meantime, i was hoping for advice on:
- whether the 3/4" subfloor is sufficient, or i should put down some plywood underlayment. i recently installed the osb, so the plywood would be more for strength/stiffness then evening out bumps, etc.
- if so, whether i cut the underlayment to go under the tub and sink (still to be installed), or whether they go directly on the subfloor
- any general advice or suggestions for what i have planned
Thanks in advance for any help
