Does anyone know of dampers for a 4 zone system that will work in an outside crawl space. Our dampers go bad from condensation although wrapped w/ 2"" external insutaion (over the actuators as well) and apparently cause the electronic control panel to develop a hardware error. This will be the third pizza box we have installed in 5 years. The equipmnent is Bryant 2 speed heat pump with a variable speed ahu, evap temp safeties bypass damper, It works flawlessly and is extremely efficient when components are intact. I am an hvac guy w/ nearly 30 yrs experience and do not know of any dampers I have seen that will hold up to the humidity and condensation. Anybody out there aware of any type of damper I could use. Control voltage, and damper configuration are not an issue. I can work out the electronics and do the ductwork. Thanks.

Id take them out and just put balance dampers in. That you can set them your self and let them alone. I dont like them cause if only one zone calls and you need a by pass damper the coil can start to ice up some

an outside crawl space

Go to http://aboutsavingheat.com/crawlspace.html

Read it might help.

you have to put in a by-pass damper as well

Then it dont take long to freeze the coil.

If he has a 4 zone system I,m sure there's more than one 6" lead on each zone, come on now, Do you think he has four six " leads?think about it

There are PVC butterfly dampers used in the laboratory HVAC world that would be worth testing. A company named Auto-Flow is one that I am aware of around Pittsburgh with PVC blades and tube, and an electronic actuator. They may not go below 8" however.
