Hello Everyone: I have a small gap between my top front step and the house steps are actually pulling away from the house! Its about an inch wide and 2feet long. The water is starting to seep down into the basement when it rains from here. I want to fill the gap, what is the best stuff to use (hydraulic cement) or what? Thanks, Tom

lots of caulk! If you add more cement to it it will just crack as the step pulls away more.

For a crack that wide you should use a backer rod (closed cell foam avaiable at the big box). Fill the crack and push the rod down so it is below the slab by half the width. Then caulk with a good caulk. The cheaper the caulk, the sooner you will have to do it over.

There is a reason for the movement and it can be expected to continue for a while unless corrected.

Ok, Thanks Guy's, what kind of Caulk and what kind of cement is best????
I am retired and on disability (heart condition) cannot afford to have work done correctly!
But this should keep any water from starting to get into the basement.
