Yesterday I happened to go into my basement (which I rarely do, thank goodness I went down!) only to find water going from the furnace to the wall ditch area. Right by the furnace it was almost 1/4 inch deep  , and as it narrowed it's stream to the wall it was much less...
I noticed that the a/c unit seemed to be "pouring" water out at the top and trickling down to the floor through the inside of the unit. It stopped when we turned the a/c off...now we are very hot and uncomfortable, and at a loss as to what to do. We cannot afford a repair man right now. Can we work through this ourselves?
FYI the filter is the pleated kind you change once a year - we changed it in the fall. I never even read through the stuff when we bought the house :o - we could've had the warrenty moved over to us - for a $25 fee...the unit hasn't been serviced since 2/2000 - we moved in in 11/2000. Unit was installed in 1996.

First get a MERV 5 filter and change it every 30 to 90 days for sure. There is a drain line from the unit can be just 3/4 pvc pipe white. Is it clean ???? blow and suck on it with a shop vac.
Clean out the drain there and then turn the AC back on . Post back in same post.
ED;)

Hello. We ended up replacing some pvc pipe, b/c when we went to disconnect it to blow the pipe out, it broke...water came gushing out! But it is all better now! Thank you for you advice!
I will mention the MERV 5 filter to dh.
Take care
