I have a small window unit, How do I add freon ?

I took cover off and I see no place to add the freon.

its a sunbeam from wal-mart.

compressor works, thermostat works, fan works, just no cold air. want to add some freon, but again see no place to add it.

Well, after being certified by the EPA you would normally have to solder on a couple of ports, if they do not already exist.

So in light of mdtaylors post, you call somebody that is certified to handle freon and have them charge it up.

Residential freon is not a DIY project. This requires a professional who is licensed and certified to do so. For the cost of a service call or a repair, it may be more economical to replace a small window unit.

Thats what I was thinking, the cost of having someone come versus just buying a new one. I think I only paid a $100 for it.

I have installed freon in a few cars before, the R12.

but that was easy, just hook up and charge, watch pressuer gauge, charge while unit was one. then once proper amount then undo.

cutting and adding a fitting is possible to do, however Ill pass on that.

As others have stated not worth the time or trouble but go ahead and get your cert and training done, then simply use a bolt type line tap. Window ACs are fun to play with kinda like refrigerators but no way it is worth a mans time LOL
