Reading the forum, I know you need to replace the capicator when installing a new condenser fan motor. My current system has a dual cap. The fan motor I bought is a 4 wire that came w/ just a small two prong run cap. Question. Do I replace the old dual cap, hook it up to that, or can I leave the dual cap on AND also use the small cap I got w/ it?:wall:

You got it--- Just let the compressor on the old one--- Then tie it down so it dont hit and thing is all.

OK thats what I thought. So one wire goes to one side of contactor, one to the other side. The two remaining wires go to each side of the run cap. So, no line vlotage wires go to the run cap? On the big cap, a wire from the contactor is plugged into it? This must be cause its for the compressor?

UMM no most likely the motor you got is not a dual cap or else it would have came with 2 caps. You do not reuse the old caps. Only use what came in the box. you better check if that new motor uses a run cap to. If it did go back and get one for that motor.

Now I am going by that you didn't get the exact brand and model that was in there already.

Depending on the motor those caps are used for power factor correction or phase shifting on the coils or both. If you use the old ones with out finding out if they are sized right for that motor it will not being running at the desired PF or you could burn the fan out quicker.

Its not an OEM but all the specs are the same. The original was just plugged into the dual cap. The new one I got came with a little run cap as well.

Just use the cap that came with the new motor is all. Let the compressor on the dual cap it is on.

Just wire it up the way the schematic on the new motor says and you'll be fine. Use the new cap.

You don't touch the compressor caps.

You replace the cap that came with the fan for the fan

Spec on the motor means nothing for wiring, that will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

That was my question. The one that came with the fan, I dont have in my condenser, I just have the dual cap. Someone told me you can cut the brown/white tracer wire and hook it up the way it was, with a new dual cap, instead of using the run cap and a cap for the compresser.

The part that confused me was does voltage need to be fed to the run cap? Or simply two wires on run cap, other two on contactor?

Use the cap that came with the motor then you are sure its the right volts and Mfd.
