I am planning to install some wall cabinets without doors in a bookcase/storage type unit.

Since they will be exposed, what type of screws should I use to fasten the doorless units to the wall?
Some sort of decorative washer head screw (brass colored maybe?), or countersink and try to plug the hole? Or something else?

I am planning on using Mills Pride units, "maple" colored units.

Counter sinking would weaken the wood. I would go with a good quality washer head screw. Do not skimp on this. Use a screw of sufficient diameter and length to do the job. Make sure the screws are driven into studs or sturdy blocking. If these cabinets are filled with books, most likely the weight will be greater than if the cabinets were used for dishes.

I agree- countersinking would weaken the connection. You could select a large round washer head screw, or perhaps just use a finishing washer around your choice color screw, provided the contents of the cabinet will not be excessively heavy.

Yes, I suppose countersinking would weaken the screw strips, which I assume are probably 3/4" particle board.

I had planned to hang the cabinets, completely supporting them from the wall. But now considering the weight issues, I think it may be a good idea to rest them on the floor as well.

I plan to build a unit similar to this:

if you are screwing face frames together then you want to use trim head screws. with these screws you will want to clamp the frames together and drill a hole small enough for the screw threads to grab. these screws are more like pinning the frames together than sucking them together. very small haeds and used on all top cabinet installs
as for screwing to the wall you will need to look at the cabinet. is this a custom cabinet or a factory built cabinet. if factory built you can go above and below the cabinet glued in shelve and screw to the wall. then the screws will not seen

Thanks for that website. I'll either use the snap-caps or just use some gold colored washer head screws and leave them exposed. They may look fine, I'll just wait and see.
