I have an extended warranty from a retail chain store for my air conditioner. When I needed service, the store got an authorized service center to come, and they said I needed a fan motor. When I called to ask if they got it in, they said it takes 4-5 days. They didn't get it in until three weeks later. It's a very popular model air conditioner that was bought in 2002. Does that sound right to anyone? I'm thinking that they may have delayed ordering it until they had the money, or that they were waiting until someone with the same model threw their's out so they could take the fan motor. They said they ordered it from the manufacturer, but who knows.
Then they wanted to take the air conditioner to their shop to install it. Wouldn't it make more sense to take it the day they came? I'm thinking that they still may not have the motor, and they just want to get me and the retailer off their backs for a while and make it harder for us to try a different repair place.

Is this a window unit? If that's the case it very well could have taken that long to get it.

The thing you have to remember is that just because the store orders it, doesn't mean the vendor will ship it. They may be out, have shipping delays, etc. The vendor may require a certain dollar (or even weight) amount to accumulate before shipping.
Yes, it would be nice if the retailer would inform the customer of this, but then the retailer risks losing the sale to the place that SAYS they can get it in 2 days.
