ok my dads, central a/c was flooded during hurricane katrina, and now hes trying to get the unit running again, hes replaced the fan motor and the circuit board chip (thing, LOL) and the unit comes on but the compressor does not. the inside unit is in the attic, so it was untouched. its a bryant 3 ton, i beleive. any ideas, would be appreciated, sorry i dont have alot of info on the unit. the heat works fine, if that helps.

Along with the fan motor and control board I would replace the contactor and all capacitors on a unit that had been submerged. There is actually very little else to the system as long as 240 volts is good to the inlet side of the contactor and 24 volts control voltage is at the base of the contactor. Your transformer and relays are typically in the inside unit. the biggest problem with these units is cleaning, the unit must be thoroughly cleaned before it is put back into service.

the unit comes on but the compressor does not.

Like said check the contactor and the big capacitor for the compressor. Id also pull the cap that is down there on the compressor where the wires go into the compressor and make sure that its clean down there and cant have any electric shorts.
