You're talking life insurance? QuickQuote and SelectQuote have been around awhile. You could see what they come up with. Be sure to check up on the insurance company. A.M. Best is the premier insurance rating agency.

There is alot of value in having a local agent. Personally, I wouldn't use an online company just because of the personal contact.
If you have a problem with a local agent you can go into their office & work with them. If there is a problem with your actual insurance company your agent can use their volume to negotiate problems, where as dealing with an online company you have very little leverage. An even bigger issue is that when you work with a good agent you are basically hiring them to represent you to the company & vice versa. They have more knowledge, contacts, & incentive to resolve problems & make clients happy. Also most of the online companies just write auto insurance.
Their (online companies) quote systems are probably accurate (if you answer the questions correctly), & like coaster says if they have an "A" rating or better you should be fine . S&P, Fitch, & Moodys are the best ratings companies in my opinion, A.M.Best is a "catch all". Many folks use online companies because of their convinience, it just depends on what's important to you .
