We have new wood countertops in our kitchen that have been treated several times with a treatment oil that contains both tung oil and linseed oil. I regret getting these countertops because I really do not like the oil-treated finish. I am thinking of trying to find something that will have a smoother feel and be more water resistant. Can I use something such as a polyurethane at this point since they have already been treated with an oil?

Waterlox makes a tung oil varnish that should work over an oil finish. They have a website you check out.
