Our house's downstairs is 80% hardwood glued to the foundation. The other 20% are areas that are carpeted and have long seams where the existing carpet meets the existing wood.
We'd like to take up the carpeted areas and replace with wood, and refinish the whole thing in a darker stain.
I'm thinking we'll need to remove the shorter planks in the existing floor and replace them with uncut new planks so the board pattern will be consistent in the new rooms, then sand/finish the whole thing.
Q1: Is my thinking sound? Have any of you done or seen a project like this before?
Q2: I'm a little worried about getting those glued planks out and replacing them. How exactly should that happen?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
