I just framed in a three season porch on the upper level of my home (there is no conditioned space below this room) . It is framed with 2x6 walls for added insulation the floors are made of 3/4" T & G glued and nailed over 11 7/8" engineered "I" joist. Floor, walls and attic will be blown in insulation. Room is filled with high performance Andersen series 400 double hung windows. It is closed off from the main living space by an Andersen Frenchwood door. In other words the only thing missing is a heat/AC duct.
Is there a hardwood floor product that I can install in this room that will not be affected severly by the fact it is not a conditioned (heated) space in the winter (I live in Michigan)? Is this asking for trouble? Any options or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

Are there any good options for a wood look alike that would do well in this situation? I am open to any possible solutions.
Thanks,
Jeff

solid vinyl planks that look just like wood from Amtico. (per Carpets Done Wright's recommendations in other threads).
i'm not sure ANY wood product would do well in a room with wildly fluctuating temperatures & humidity levels. i would think you'd have too much expanding & contracting going on.

Hi Annette,
Thanks for the response. I could not agree more on the "wildly fluctuating humidity levels" this is what prompted the question. My wife is interested in keeping this space unheated (I don't know why after all my hard work) and would like wood/wood look alike floors and I am trying to accomodate. I am for just finishing the job and installing the necessary HVAC ducts and complete the job proper. Why stop short of doing it right.
Thanks again,
Jeff

That's good!!
You were building a greenhouse, and didn't know it. Wood flooring would have been a bad choice. Now with a way of getting the heat and moisture out, wood will be a perfect choice, as long as all the building materials have had time to dry and dehydrate out of the interior atmosphere.

Hi Perry,
Thanks for the reply! I could not agree more with you, in fact that is what prompted the question. I was quite aware of the greenhouse I was constructing. Unfortuanately my wife was not on the same page with me and sometimes it easier coming from somebody other than your spouse. She had hoped a ceiling fan would suffice in the summer and we would just not use this new space in the winter. And we could have new hardwood floors with no problem.
Thanks again for your help,
Jeff
