Hi,
I'm a real estate agent working with a seller. In this situation we have a 4 yr old home that has never been lived in. It has new (4 yrs old), never used GE Spectra XL 44 gas range and oven. We cannot seem to get the oven or the burners to light. I know the gas is on and active up to the connection in the back. The burners attempt to light in that the ignitors are clicking and you can see the spark, but no flame. I also do not smell any gas odor after several attempts at lighting.
Is there some place on the stove where the gas is blocked? I'm wondering if there is another valve or some plug in the line that is installed by the manufacturer..
thanks,
Brian

Hello Brian. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic.

What type of gas is used? Natural or propane? May help to determine a cause.

First location to check is behind the appliance. Very likely the shut off valve is turned off. That can be determined by the position of the lever on the valve.

If the lever is turned across the gas supply pipe, valve is off. Has to be turned in line with the pipe and (likely to be installed) flex connector used with natural gas. May be tubing if propane is used.

If that valve is ON and still no gas, possible but not as likely, the shut off on the appliance regulator is still in the OFF position. Regulator will be located on the appliance where the connector is attached to the appliance.

Level usually RED in color. But not always red. Once located you may have to turn it to get it to open and allow gas to flow to the burners.

Be aware, there may be air in the pipe lines until the gas arrives once the valve is turned on. Same applies to the shut off valve in the gas supply pipe, etc.

To bleed and air out of the lines, turn on all four top burners and leave the sparker's activated until flames appear. Also be aware the main gas may not be on.

Many gas companies, propane and natural gas, turn meters and or main supply gas lines and or valves off until notified of occupancy. Done for safety since a vacant house may become a hazard should a gas leak occur without occupants made aware if it.

Additionally, natural gas companies, not having a party to bill for gas used shut of meters until a resident resides in the dwelling. Should this be the case, Nat gas meter off, contact the gas supply company.
