I have a GE JGP337 Profile 30" Built-In Gas Cooktop, one of its knobs suddenly won't turn, I can push down the knob, but it will not turn.
The knob is not damaged, I can pull it off and the stem in dial is not cracked or damaged, it's the control male stem that will not turn.
Please help to determine exactly what is the most likely problem.

As long as the knob cap is fine and does not turn freely on the valve stem, the problem likely lies in the said valve assembly. Chances are the whole valve will have to be replaced. With out seeing the cooktop in question I don't believe that it's "user friendly" in doing DIY repairs.
