hello

several weeks ago we noticed mold in the ceiling where the dryer hose is attached in our laundry room. we called a plumber to see if there was a leak from our upstairs neighbor (we live on the 2nd floor of a 3 story condo) but the plumber said no leak. I am suspecting that the dryer hose is clogged and the condensation from the dryer is causing the mold on the ceiling.

How we do deal with this, and then how do we fix the drywall on the ceiling with the mold on it?

Thank you in advance!

There is a good chance that the dryer is not venting properly and that the duct is flexible duct.

You will need to remove the affected drywall and replace the duct with solid metal pipe.

If the duct is actually clogged, then the biggest problem is a possible fire...not mold.

To get rid of the mold, mix some bleach in with water, and wipe it down with a rag (wear some rubber gloves). The mold should disappear within 10 minutes. This will only work with a small amount of mold that hasn't penetrated through the paint; if there's a lot of mold, you'll need to replace the drywall.

For the vent, as was suggested, you should have metal duct to exhaust the dryer. Be sure to use metal foil tape on all the seams to be sure that it's sealed (duct tape does NOT work).

You should try to clean your dryer duct every once in a while. Even though there's a lint trap in your dryer, some can always get through and could build up in the duct.
