What is a solvent for dissolving and cleaning caked-on
crusted wax shoe polish from shoes? We have tried
saddle soap and we are looking for something better.

mattskramer, welcome to the DIY Forums.
You may try reducing the build-up by using a hair blow dryer. The heat should sofen it up and you can wipe it off as you go. Shouldn't hurt the shoes as long as you don't get them too hot. Good luck and watch this post for other remedies.

Leather shoes..would damage with strong solvents...i would try the hair dryer thing..that sounds cool. If not test some rubbing alcohol on a rag and do a small area and see how it looks. May have to repolish afterwards
