We have 6 TV outlets in our home and it degrades our cable tv signal. Lots of snow in the picture. I am looking for a good distribution amplifier that has maybe 8 tv outputs, in case we add more outlets in a couple places, and have some questions:
1. which is the best brand or model? does anyone have any experience that can say which works best? I don't want to spend a lot of money only to discover that I should have bought something else
2. do i need to worry about an amplifier strengthening the signal too much and causing different problems with the picture quality, or is this not an issue?
3. are there distribution amplifiers that will allow you to adjust the amount of boost to the signal?
Thank you,
Kevin

I have one of the Leviton amps for their structured wiring center, it works fine, and it's been tested by the cable company as one of the better units they've seen in use.

Try just asking your cable repair rep to install one.
Call your cable company and complain about your picture quality, they will send out someone. Ask that person if the problem is the signal degredation because of the number of outlets. If he/she agrees, ask them to install a signal amp (if they don't go ahead and say that's what they are going to do).

i actually work for the company that supplies cable tv to the community i live in so i know the techs pretty well :) i asked one of them about it, they looked into it, and it turns out there is a splitter on the line a block or so away that is weakening the signal a little bit, they're going to make some changes to strengthen the signal and i'll see how that works. i have a feeling that even with that i will need an amp if i wanted to split out to 8 outlets. we'll see, i'll post back with more details when i get them
thanks

i would get a bi directional amp which you can get at any eletronics store ,make sure you get one that you can adjust the amount of signal being given to the outlets, to much is bad and as you probably notice little is bad too .before you get into purchase ,have your cable company check the strenght of signal at your initial house conn.:)
