Have wooden doors that need to be redone. We have done one door and turned out pretty good but noticed that there are a few areas where the poly has vein like or crackle look in some parts on the door. It's an outside door and this is our first door so this was the test door. Not to noticable unless your really looking for it. Any idea what causes this and what we could do so it won't happen with the other doors. It's only in a few areas because the rest of the door is smooth. We lightly sanded after the 1st coat of poly with 220 grit. This didn't show up until the 3rd coat. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Other than then this the door looks awesome!

I can't say for sure without seeing it but it sounds like the poly was applied too thick - painting in hot sun may have played apart. i would sand it lightly and apply another coat - slightly thinned.

Ahhhh! I could have been put on a little thick. My husband used a wagner to apply (were told that would give better results) but he got a little carried away so that could be a possibility. We did the work with the door in the garage so it wasn't the sun. Thanks for a response now I need to watch my husband a little closer when he's applying the poly! hahahaha

I had assumed that you had brushed the door. Still the same fix but you don't need to thin the poly unless neccessary for it to spray correctly.
