I am planning to finish a portion of my basement and add a bathroom (drains already in place). I plan on putting in a ceiling exhaust fan/heater unit.
My question is this, is it ok to install one of these units in a suspended ceiling? I would drywall the ceiling, but there is a lot of plumbing above the proposed bathroom (upstairs master bath, laundry room) that I would like have to access to.

The fan heater should be mounted solidly from above, even if it means framing down with lumber in order to make it solid. Just laying it in the suspended ceiling will cause the panels to warp, especially in humid conditions. You are pushing the envelope by installing the metal grid in a humid area. You will have rust eventually, so it may be best to paint the entire grid system metal with Rustoleum or some other metal rust preventive paint prior to installation. Also, use a 2x2 grid rather than 2x4 system for the same reasons.
