I have a old ez-go probably form the 60s it always worked fine till yesterday when it made a whine and about 5 min later quit working all together. When you step on the gas it moves just a hair unless you put the pedal to the floor then it jerks around and one of the 4 wires going to the motor wants to burn off. This wire gets hot almost instantly. Its a very old cart and has the 4 relays in the back. Im really lost on what the problem is. If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate the help.

to me it sounds like a short or about time for a new motor. is this one of them green 3 wheel carts??
there should be a way that you can replace the 4 wires and or the harness that leads from the batteries to the motor. i have heard of ez-go.com has parts but im not sure about parts for carts made in 60's and 70's
the whining on it can also be from the rear axle if its not the motor.
about having to put pedal to floor it might be the linkage maybe bent or the switch that the pedal contacts.
my grandfather had one of them until about 1996 he then sold it.

Yes it is one of the old 3 wheel carts and its built like a tank compared to the new ones. I have a 1992 4 wheel electric and it stripped out the splines in a brake drum and stripped out the collar connecting the motor to the axle. This old 3 wheel has never had any trouble. I took off the motor and you could see burnt windings. I found a place in for wayne IN that built a new motor out of some old parts they had. It cost around $200 for it but these motors are about impossible to find with the spindle on each end. If anybody would like to know the name of this electric motor place PM me and Ill find the name for you.

I don't think Grainger will have the type of motor you need. They specialize in more industrial applications. Just do some looking online for golf cart parts & supplies. There are many companies that sell parts for carts but be ready to pay $300 for a new motor.
Before buying a new motor make sure you do not have a cheaper to fix problem elsewhere. Get a voltmeter and check to make sure you are getting power to the motor at each of the four speeds when you depress the accelerator.

Motors are very evpensive, there is a parts place near here that has very good prices on there parts. They been around since 1939, they had a motor that would fit but would have no brake for $600 and I think it was used. I sent the motor to a repair shop and they took it apart and said that someone years ago took some windings out and that may have caused it to burn up or it failed from age. So they made me the new motor from parts they had for $200 and it works like new.
