I have either a Goodman or Janitrol unit. I noticed a strange hovering sound. Then the fan started to blowing normally and then barely blowing. When blowing normally cool air was coming out of the air vent. When it was not blowing normally the air was not cool. Then after several hours a clicking noise started the outside fan continually ran. I could not cut the fan off at the thermostat. after several hours I cut the unit off outside. When I cut it back on I noted that the button with a spring on the contactor was vibrating. There was popping and arching coming form the contactor. I replaced the contactor. Then the cold side of pipes got cold but the outside fan was blowing cold air and the inside fan would not run. I then noted that the contactor I had used to replace the old one was a 2 pole contactor and the one I was trying to replace was a 1 pole contactor. I opened up the inside unit where the furnace is. I could not get to the fan. However, I noted that the service tech had placed a wire around a bad 3 amp fuse. I replaced the fuse. A kill switch is located at the edge of the door frame. I am not able to get the door back properly so that the kill switch will be engaged. I noted that only one of the wires on the kill switch has current. I replaced the 2 pole contactor with a 1 pole contactor. However, now I am not getting any volts off the coil. What would cause me not to get volts off the coil?

Probably the door switch is interrupting the secondary voltage from your transformer. This will turn off all low voltage to your thermostat and to your contactor outside.

Could be something else...

When the T-Stat is on and you hold the switch for the door on the furnace does the fan run??

If it does then you need to get the door on (in some way) to keep the switch pushed in.

If that is not the problem you would need to start checking the board in the furnace.
