i've recently gutted my kitchen, and want to have a tile backsplash when all is put back together. i know i need greenboard on the walls behind the cabinets. can i go up 2 feet w/ greenboard, then attch a sheet of backerboard directly above it to the studs? or do i need to do the entire wall in greenboard and put a section of cementboard over it?
thanks

Why do you need greenboard behind cabinets? I would install 1/2" cement backerboard up 2" or so (cement board is 3' wide), and balance the remainder with 1/2" sheetrock, attach the cabinets, and do your tile thing on the backerboard. That way the plane going up the wall is not disturbed.
