Ruud updraft electric furnace/evaporator in closet. Air handler loud, high air flow at registers. I've heard I can plug in a different color wire to reduce the motor speed. I have several unused wires under cover, including some for unused heat strips. Is there a sure way to tell which wire is correct to hook up to blower?

On the blower door should be the schematic for the unit look at that. It should show you what is what there for speed. If intake grill is right by the unit. Sometimes it help to like line the inside of the unit with scrap duct board. this cuts down on the sound also.

My friend does balances air handlers, and he usually adjusts the pully either tighter or wider, to change the circumferance of the belt, thus changing the speed. He has a neat little tool that has a rubber knob that he presses against the spindle to read the rpm's.

yours might be the same way,. i'll let more knowledgeable people here steer you right.
