Btw, I'm absolutely not knowledgeable about this subject. Please bear with me. :)

Office (was builder's optional 3rd car garage) runs 4 computers in 145 sqft. It gets hot here in PHX. Carpet is thick and there is no room under the door for heat extraction. Cool air comes in, but hot air doesn't get out. Leaving the door open helps but room is still semi-uncomfortably warm. 1 register near window at length end of the ceiling (14x9). Register is furthest away from A/C Unit on 12" duct. It seems I have plenty of cool air supply. I believe my problem lies with the hot air not being circulated properly. The details of my A/C are below if needed.

My Question: If you believe I also have an airflow problem, I want to install an additional return in my office to increase airflow. Can I y-split the 1 original return duct into two so that I can run another duct to the new return? Basically (in reverse) having two returns y-split and merging into one duct back to the unit?

A/C

I know someone in here has info on this.

You sure can add another return from that room to the other return. You want to try and get it to go back to the unit right at the unit. If you can.
You dont say if the other return is a filter grill or not. So just make sure that the new return has to go through a air filter there or at the unit.

Sorry Ed and thanks for replying. The existing configuration has 1 large flexible duct hose routing to a filtered return.

Just so I understand...

At or near the unit, I can y-split the return hose and run two hoses to 2 returns (filtered)? Is this correct? Also, can I make the second filtered return smaller or should it be comparable in size to its sister?

Thanks!

Out of the box here--Not there to see it and how far. Id run a 12" return pipe like the supply pipe to the room with a filter grill on it. if you have to later on.You can like put a small piece of cardboard over part of this intake or the other one. If you need more intake out there or in the other part of the home. That 12 " pipe is 500CFM thats over a ton of AC.
