Two days ago my wife noticed that the pump's fan wasn't running. She went and found that the main fuse had tripped and she reset the fuse. The fan immediately came on.
A day later we noticed that the house wasn't cooling even though the fan had been going full blast for the whole day. So we went to the machine and noticed that while the fan was running the compressor wasn't working. At least that's what we think, since the only thing running was the fan.
I read some other posts on here and they say that when the fuse is reset, you should wait for a couple of hours before turning on the system. We did that and still no cold air.
Could the fuse inside the machine, if there is one, have tripped? I am assuming that its not a freon issue since before the fuse trip, the machine was running just fine. Of course, I know nothing about these things so I could be totally wrong.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Open her up and find the contactor. Do a visual inspection of all components including wiring, contacts, and capacitors. Look for other components that may have a resert on them. High pressure limits, low pressure limits, etc.
Chances are you have a critter (lizard, i.e.) that crawled into the contacts that caused the breaker to trip, and preventing the contactor from working properly.
Look for leaking or bulging capacitors (careful, they are charged wven with the power off) and burned wires. If you find any other devices with wires look and see if any have a reset button on them.
The compressor does have an internal breaker but will reset itself periodically until the condition that tripped it is corrected. You will hear the compressor attempting to start, if that is causing it. It is not resettable by the consumer.

Mdtaylor, thank you very much for your response. I opened the thing up earlier today and did not notice any burnt wires or leakages.
However, I am also an idiot when it comes to these things so I'll try it again tomorrow and also call a contractor.
Again, thank you very much for your help.

Good advice. Thank you.
I got the compressor running but still no cold air. The contractor is coming tomorrow.
