I've been looking for an HDTV in the 62 inch range. I checked out some DLP HDTVs, and it looks like the picture is great compared to the standard rear projection HDTV. I have room to put in the projection type, so I'm not compelled to get plasma (which I don't think comes in 62 inches). My wife finally gave me the go ahead (uh-oh....I wonder what she wants).

Anyone have experience with the DLPs?

Thanks

DLP's are nice. You get a bigger size tv for lesser money compared to plasma. Down side is that they are still bulky and they have a bulb you have to replace about every two years or so. They do make plasma's in the 60" size. Pioneer makes one and it goes for about 9000.00-9500.00 roughly. Plasma's will have a better picture, but over 50" you are are getting pretty deep in the pocket book. If your looking at DLP style TV's, look at the new sony SXRD and the new Samsung 61". Both are around 3000.00-3500.00. One thing of advice...TV that size, I would plan on sitting at least 12ft away at least for optimal viewing.

Hope that helps,

Thanks for your input. We sit around 15 feet away, that's why I was looking for something 60+ inches.

Remember .. If you smoke the fans on DLPs will suck the smoke in and coat the optics over time. You can clean the mirror and the external lens but NOT the internal optics. This will mean a short overall life for the engine. I have seen it several times so far. Some were covered by the service contract but one customer did not have the contract. Don't smoke and have a dust free house with these sets.
