My neighbor has a 2 year old GE gas stove and the oven quit working. The broiler works, burners work, just the oven does not want to start.
Someone told her there is a switch at the rear of the oven that may have been knocked out of alignment. Her husband pulled the bottom storage drawer out, found the switch tinkered with it, , but the oven still won't light. Any suggestions or should they call in a GE Service tech?

Hello tranch. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic.
There are a few areas to check first, before calling any service tech for help. Your first correct action was to post the question here at diy.com and secondly in my topic....
The isiolation valve, likely what was referred to by that "someone" would not likely get turned off for almost any reasons. Except accidentially or intentionally.
More likely the HSI (Hot Surface Igniter) isn't glowing or is doing so too weakly to ignite gas. So first thing to note is if it glowing at all or somewhat. Either way, the idea is to know if power is getting to it and if it glows at all. qwe can then go from there.
Post back more specific details. Also find almost all the help need here: Range-Stove-Oven-Broiler Basic Help Information & Manufacturers Web Sites: http://forum.doityourself.com/showthread.php?t=159808
Cautionary Reminder Note:
Before attempting any repairs, be sure to unplug the appliance from the wall receptacle power source first.

Thank you for the reply. I'll forward the info to her husband when he gets home from work tonight and get back to you as soon as I can. Just in case he wants to know, where would this igniter be and how can he see if it's working properly, or at all.
