I have a old center table n side table. They have lots of scracthes and marks on them. I dont like the stain also. Please could you suggest how to improvise it. Its my first DIY project and have no idea about the tools I need and where I get them.

If you don't like the stain (color) you'll have to strip & refinish.
You'll pay about $20 a gallon for a GOOD stripper. Very few tools will be needed, assuming the pieces are in good mechanical condition.
If you decide to proceed with this project, come back with some ideas about where you want to go with these pieces and we'll have more information
