I am installing a ceiling fan with light. When the previous fan was installed, the fan was only operatable from the chain. There is only one light switch to operate the light/ceiling fan.
This is what the ceiling has: (4) Black & (1) white twisted together, (4) white twisted together & (1) white wire alone.
Our Hunter fan: (1) Black wire alone, (1) White wire alone & (1) Black/White wire alone.
How are these suppose to match up?

Look again in ceiling box. You have described 4 blacks and 6 whites. The lone white is probably black and just has paint on it. It should come from the same cable with the white that is connected to the blacks.
The white with the blacks is the switch loop to turn on the light. It belongs with the blacks.
Connect the fan white to the other white wires.
Connect the fan black to the other blacks.
Connect the fan black/white to the switch black.
Fan will work from pull chain. Light will work from switch.
