we have a new gibson gas dryerwith three auto dry cycles
and one timed cycle.the timed cycle works fine but when we
use any of the auto settings the knob doesn't seem to move
and the dryer runs forever just doesn't seem right should'nt
the auto cycle time out after the cloths are dry.

Uh, ya, it should. Actually it isn;t timed, it uses a moisture sensor to detect humidity.

Are the clothes actually getting dry??
If so, I would call the warranty phone number to have it looked at.

If not:

is the dryer at least heating them up?

If no, call the phone number

if yes, clean the dryer vent and start over.

If no success, call the phone number.

Hello mkkandb. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

New? As in Brand New just purchased? Contact the dealer and or retailer. May be a warranty repair. Or the venting system is clogged, restircted, etc. Flex tube may be crimped, bent or closed off when dryer installed.

Exhaust hood flapper door may not be opening, stuck or not opening due to restircted venting. Hand check flapper door and also air volume while dryer running. Should be plenty of air volume or some thing wrong in the venting system, etc.

Fuseable Link:
Check for continuity across this part. It will be located in the exhausts venting system prior to the discharge outlet. If there is no continuity, replace the part. Not all dryers have this part.

Moisture Sensor may be defective. Not likely but possible. Several other possible causes. More info here: Dryer help here: http://forum.doityourself.com/showthread.php?t=159481

ok here is what my wife tells me about it.she put in a load
and set it on auto regular setting small load just undercloths
she states after 2hrs' the knob was still in the same place she had set it at. and the cloths were more than dry .she stop the cycle
so i would say the senser isn't working what do you think.

Hello: mkkandb

Question remains unanswered.
Kindly advise.

"New? As in Brand New just purchased?"

If the appliance is NEW, contact the dealer and or manufacturer, Appliance may still be under warranty.

If above does not applied, replace senser and see what the results are. May be a stuck timer.
