I have a JVC mini DV Cybercam video camera (model GR-dvm 70). I have quite a bit of footage that is very imporatant to me that i want to transfer to DVD. I have no apparatus to do this with. What would be the best way to do this without spending a million dollars? I can use either a PC or just hook straight to a stand alone DVR unit.
P.S. I would also like to convert a few vhs tapes that I originally recorded from this camera.
thanks in advance

You can get a Firewire card for your PC rather reasonable. If you search, I believe Pinnacle does, or at least has, sold a package with a Firewire card and an editing application.

I don't know how any newer release versions of Pinnacle are but version 8 (I think it was) introduced a lot of audio lag into the edit process. For a straight, non-edit dump of the tape it was ok. The problem came with multiple edits within the finished presentation.
Best to read the forums at the Pinnacle site before 'investing' in them as it's been a sore spot for a lot of their users. I gave up after 4 or 5 beta patches that 'we' were trying out for them. ULead has some good edit software too.
But the firewire card is the way to go for dumping to DVD with your PC.

You most likely can install a firewire card, if it has a free PCI slot, or PCMCIA slot for a notebook.
