Does anyone know how I can remove the smell of white spirit from clothes. I got some sort of stains on a jacket and I tried everything but it looked like it was embedded into the fabric. So I thought it might be chewing gum and tried to remove it with white spirit. It removed it about 50% but left a strong odor. I then washed it in the washing machine stupidly with a few other clothes in there. Now all the clothes have the odor. What can I do? This is a new jacket.

i would sit the jacket out in the sun for awhile...as long as it is not made of a material that is very sensitive to heat or light. That should help make sure it is 100% dry. If all else fails, maybe a few plain water cycles would help. Rubbing alcohol would remove the residue i believe. But i havent a clue a safe way to use it on the whole thing or serveral other articles.

Avoid putting laundry in dryer that still smells of mineral spirits. Fumes are volatile and flammable. Air, preferably outdoors, until fumes dissipate. Then rewash if necessary.

Do you think I should take it to the dry cleaners?

If you did not remove all the residue from the fabric, then a trip to the dry cleaners would be helpful and give you peace of mind.
