I have a 3 bed room ranch house with 2 bathrooms upstairs.
It also has a full basement that won't be included in the question.
Frederick Maryland.
What is a reasonable price to have my house cleaned once per month? I live by myself so there is very little to do. No clothes or bedding washing, I do that myself.
I am very sincere, I'm just tired of doing a lousy job and want it done well.

May be a dumb question but what is the total sqft and what exactly did you want cleaned?

Too many variables to give you a good answer. As a ballpark, we pay $10/hour for cleaning in our rental units, but I have a patient who cleans homes for a living and charges $20/hour. I would suggest having several people come over and bid the job.

I would say 15-20..you have to remember if you hire a person who has the company you are paying there insurance, comp, labor and supplies
hire a person from a company 10-15 for some of the same reasons
remember you get what you pay for cheaper is not always better...i have seen way too many people running around getting paid min wage doing junk work
i get paid alot more to come behind those people and correct problems they either couldnt solve or MADE

May be a dumb question but what is the total sq ft and what exactly did you want cleaned?
Using outside dimensions of house (1400 sq ft) 1st floor = 3 bedroom, living room, country kitchen and two bathrooms.
Areas to be cleaned would be 1 Bedroom (Master), 2 bathrooms, living room, and country kitchen/dining room.
2 bedrooms are closed and not to be entered.
I think $20.00 an hour is ridiculous.

You may not want to pay it, but it's not ridiculous.

Did you call around and get quotes?
We had these cleaners come in our office (not house) that's about 500 sqft (I think or less) and all they did was vaccuum and take out the trash. It once a week and $50 a month.
I say call around and get some quotes. There are definitely the good ones and the bad ones so see how long they've been around or see if anyone you know can give you some references.

 Hi I have been a cleaning lady for 20 years and the going price around here is $10. per hour. It should take no more than 5 hours to do a regular cleaning

Now that sounds like a reasonable estimation.

$20/hour x 40 hours/week x 52 weeks/years = $41,600. The assumption here is that one can clean 40 hours a week and also not have other expenses. There will always be down time driving between jobs and equipment and supplies (including vehicle and gas) which will lower the net income earned, not to mention that the $20/hour probably does not include health insurance. There are those who believe $20/hour to be too much for cleaning, but one must also look at it from the point of view of the person taking the job to support themselves.

i agree Mitch, if that 20/hr includes providing chemicals or equipment. That isnt enough......some chems for cleaning carpet are high. A speciality spotter for removing dyes, runs $18 a pint. Granted you wouldnt use it all on the one job, but imagine having to buy things and store them at that cost.
