I've used Mastic before in shower areas, everyone has a different opinion. If thinset is better please advise. The wall has been painted with primer.

P.s. Is mastic that bad in tub showers? Some contractors who been in business 20+ years swear it doesn't matter, its a question of time.
Thinset is cheaper.

Many tend to recommend thinset where water is an issue.

What do you have on the walls now, why is it primed?

Mastic should only be used for ceramic tile in dry areas on walls only, never on floors or with stone of any kind and never use it for tile over 8".

If water gets to it, it can reimulsify and turn to mush.

The 20 year guys are doing it wrong and are just too lazy to mix thinset, which by the way is better AND cheaper to use.
