I have a light fixture (non electric-made for a candle) that I would like to convert to an electrical low voltage outdoor light. I had seen this done on one of the home improvement shows, but I don't remember the shows name & they didn't give information on how to do this. My fixture is in two pieces. It is a brass cage (11" h x 7 1/2" w) where a removable glass globe (7 1/2" H x 6 1/2" w) sits in it. The brass cage encompasses the globe; at the halfway point (from bottom to top) it is hinged on one side and the other side has a sliding lock. The glass globe is open on the top & bottom to where it is fitted in the brass cage. At the top of the brass cage are small holes where wire can be fitted through with a moveable hoop hanger above that. I have searched and searched for information on how to do this, but have come up empty handed. I'm sure there is someone out there that knows how to do this or can recommend a book about this.

Low voltage is a good choice, since the wiring can be smaller. You just have to use a transformer on it. This project is interesting, and I think I followed your post. Would it be possible for you to post a couple of pix of the lamp so we can see what you see?

Thanks Larry - I would be happy to post pix if I knew how to. I have a digital camera but on the posting rules is has x'd out "you may not post attachments". Is there another way to get the photos posted?

Thank you for that information. I have now downloaded images to photobucket. http://s67.photobucket.com/albums/h306/Jan-ice_2006/Home%20Improvement%20Projects/. I hope I did this right, let me know if it doesn't show up.
I would like for the light to be mounted under the top part of the globe so it will shine downward.
Thank you.

Pix were fine. With the size of the neck, you will have to either use a minature socket or a regular socket with teardrop bulbs, as a regular bulb may not fit into the globe. With that said, you need to go shopping. You will need a replacement socket with a threaded stem. You will have to figure out a way to drill a hole in the top to receive the socket and allow the wire to come out. I am assuming you will be using this hung by the loop. Take a close look at the top to see if drilling a hole would be possible. Post back so we can help further.

The light sockets you recommend can they also be used for low voltage wiring and light bulbs?

No, but you are going in the right direction with the smaller wiring, etc. Look in the low voltage section of the hardware or big box, and you will find them. Good idea.
