I have a solid tile entry way that needs to be built up about 3 in and then re-tiled. What is the best way to go about doing this and still create a solid subfloor?

You say there's tile there now?, remove it and tell us what's under it, wood, concrete slab, need more info.:coffee:

I was hoping not to have to remove the tile and build up over it. The house is a slab foundation and I am assuming that is base under the tile. I need to build it up about 3 inches because a wood floor has been installed in the rest of the house with a new subfloor that is higher than the old tile. Any suggestions would be helpful. My thought was to find out if I can put backerboard on top of the old tile 3 inches high and then install new tile on top. Please advise on what you would do or if I should just have a pro do it.

THe alternative is to leave the existing tile and not raise the floor at all, but simply add tile on top of the old tile.

Thanks
